A TAXI firm traded their cabs for bikes to take on a 50km ride to raise more than £1,300 for the NSPCC.

The team of staff members from Lightning Cars in Orpington, Bromley and Chislehurst took on the challenge on July 19.

During the week before the bike ride, manager Andy Rose donated 5p per taxi journey and Jacobs Barbers in Orpington High Street donated 10p per haircut for a month. The rest of the funds were raised through sponsorship on the day, drummed up by leaflets printed for free by printing.com.

Mr Rose said: "As a lot of the ride was off road with some sections through thick, treacle-like mud, getting back at all was a major achievement.

"There were a couple of times when I considered just giving up and living out the rest of my days in the woods would be an easier alternative. But, we did it and raised a good sum for charity, so all ended well.
