A POPULAR theatre is appealing for volunteers to help usher people into performances and they can get free performances thrown into the bargain.

The Orchard Theatre in Home Gardens in Dartford is appealing for ushers this autumn to assist the duty manager in welcoming audiences and dealing with enquiries.

Theatre bosses are also looking for volunteers to assist the marketing team, helping to co-ordinate community and education work and keep the theatre's archive up to date.

A theatre spokesperson said: "As a volunteer, you will be able to see performances at The Orchard and enjoy a range of other great benefits.

"It's also a fantastic place to meet new friends and be part of one the South East's most successful Theatres."

To apply, send your name, address, telephone, e-mail and a little bit about yourself such as how long have you been visiting The Orchard and what type of shows you enjoy, to David Hillman at volunteer@ orchardtheatre.co.uk or by post to Orchard Theatre, Home Gardens, Dartford DA1 1ED.

There is a volunteer information evening on August 19 starting at 7.30pm.
