The all-male casting exploits gender-based humour
An all-male production of Gilbert and Sullivan classic HMS Pinafore is heading to the Churchill Theatre next month.
Set in the hold of a Second World War battleship, the cast of 16 skilfully play both burly sailors and their lady visitors.
The production draws on director Sasha Regan’s experiences of performing Gilbert and Sullivan at a single-sex school, and plays on the humour that can emerge from gender changes.
It will run from July 11 to July 13 at the Churchill Theatre.
