AN AWARD-WINNING opera and ballet producer will stop touring after 25 years to focus on bigger arena projects.

Ellen Kent has orchestrated opera tours since 1993 but, to coincide with her 60th birthday next month, plans to take a different direction after this summer's tours.

The move comes after she became the first British producer to bring Carmen to the Gulf in March 2004 that attracted an audience of 3,000 royal guests and went on to open the Beiteddine Festival in Lebanon later that year.

Last year, she launched her new company Ellen Kent & Ampitheatre Production at Leeds Castle with an arena production attracting an audience of 6,000.

A last chance to see Ellen Kent's opera will be at the Orchard Theatre, Dartford next Wednesday (18) with her production of Verdi's Aida and on May 2 Bizet's Carmen.

Tickets for the 7.30pm performances are from £31.50 (children are half price, booking fee included). Call the box office on 01322 220000 or go to www.orchardtheatre.co.uk.
