TOILING on an empty planet deserted by humans hundreds of years ago, a robot continues to get on with his cleaning work.

But eventually WALL-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) discovers a deeper purpose to life than collecting knick-knacks Womble-style.

A sleek search robot named EVE discovers WALL-E and sees that the robot is the key to the planet's future.

EVE races back to space to report her findings to the humans who have been awaiting word that it is safe to return home.

Meanwhile, WALL-E chases EVE across the galaxy and sets into motion a comedy adventure.

The cast on this Pixar line-up includes a pet cockroach and a heroic team of malfunctioning misfit robots.

Filled with action and laughs, this computer animated comedy was written and directed by Andrew Stanton, of Finding Nemo fame.

* WALL-E is out in cinemas now.
