BASED on a 1961 novel by Richard Yates, Sam Mendes' Revolutionary Road reunites and reconnects Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio to powerful dramatic effect.

More than a decade after their appearance together in Titanic the two actors star as Frank and April Wheeler, a young couple who find the spark of their marriage has dulled. While April tires of looking after the house and their two children and dreams of relocating to Paris, Frank's attentions start to stray from his wife to a young co-worker (Zoe Kazan). Things are complicated further when April announces she is pregnant and, as the film unfolds, the relationship deteriorates into hatred, resentment and violence.

The performances by the leads are impressive with both of them capturing the desperation of the situation perfectly. It's hardly new but what it does it does very well.

Revolutionary Road is out in cinemas.
