Her name is Clara Oswin – the Daily Mirror revealed.

Actress Jenna-Louise Coleman is set to play the role in the series, which hits screens at Christmas.

Show bosses have tried to keep all details under wraps, but her identity leaked out.

The character - a feisty and flirty computer expert - is said to be more than a match for Doctor Who.

Former ‘Emmerdale’ star Jenna-Louise - who also played maid Annie Desmond in ITV1’s ‘Titanic’ - has previously revealed she is “really excited” about joining the show.

She explained: “I’m so excited and it’s so exciting that the news is finally out too. I knew for about two months and I couldn’t tell anyone.

“I can’t say anything about my character yet but her first episode is the Christmas special.”
