Newham’s Christine Ohuruogu produced a season’s best to win the women’s 400m at the Aviva London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace.

Ohuruogu, the 2008 Olympic champion, defied the wet conditions to come home in 50.42secs, overtaking Amantle Montsho in the home straight.

And it provided a notable boost for the Newham & Essex Beagles member ahead of the London 2012 Games.

She said: “I’ve done all the work so I’m happy I can take something away like that.

“It’s good that I put the race together and came out with a strong time.”
