Adam Gemili will compete in Bedford this weekend, despite being in pole position to represent Team GB in the 100m at London 2012
Despite putting his name into the mix for the Olympics, Dartford’s Adam Gemili insists his mind is set firmly on this weekend’s World Junior Championships trials.
The Blackheath & Bromley Harrier ducked under the Olympic 100 metres A standard earlier this month to become the fastest British sprinter in 2012.
However, Gemili will not to let such a performance distract him from the world juniors and intends to compete in Bedford this weekend.
The 18-year-old said: “I want to go and show what I can do and make the team by doing the junior trials.
“The world juniors has always been my main aim this year, it’s what I’ve been training for, so I’m focusing on them and then I will see how things are going.I’ve got a more realistic chance of doing well there too, but still it would be a fantastic bonus for me to make the Olympics at 18.
“The world junior trials are only a week apart from the Olympic trials so I’ll have to see how I feel too.”
