Mother-of-one Rachel Laming, 33, from Bromley, will be lacing up her running shoes for the Wrap up and Run event on March 4 in Crystal Palace Park in aid of Age UK.

She said: “Getting older is something that happens to us all and I want to feel as though I’ve done something to help make a difference by taking part in events like this.”

“Signing up has given me a lot of motivation to get back into running again. I’m training at least twice a week in preparation and really enjoying getting fit. Age UK is a fantastic charity to raise money for – the advice and services it offers are invaluable to the wellbeing of older people and the issues they face.”

Money raised will go to Age UK Bromley & Greenwich to help older people locally, funding their ‘fit for life’ programme and advocacy services.

Director of Age UK Bromley & Greenwich, Maureen Falloon, said: “This event has provided us with the opportunity to reach out to residents across the borough to take part in the 10k run and help to support the vital work we do in the community.

“It is not too late to sign up and spread the warmth and for friends and family to come and support the runners.”

The challenge is supported by Derrick Evans, TV’s Mr Motivator. He said: “This year is a massive year for sport in London, with Crystal Palace being the official training camp for the Brazilian Olympic team during the Games.

“This is a great way to get into sport early this year, as well as keeping fit and helping older people in the area and beyond. That’s why I’m urging everyone to sign up now.”

n To sign up contact the Age UK 10k team at 10k@ageuk.org.uk, visit www.ageuk.org.uk/10k, or call 0800 169 8787.
