THE widow of comedian Bob Monkhouse has died suddenly at her home in Barbados.

Jackie Monkhouse, 71, who was married to Beckenham-born Bob for 30 years, was found dead by her maid on Sunday morning.

Monkhouse's agent of 38 years, Peter Prichard, said that she died in her sleep. He added: "It's a shock for all her friends. There was no reason to believe she was ill."

Mrs Monkhouse divided her time between properties in the Sugar Hill area of the island and the couple's former marital home near Dunstable, Bedfordshire.

According to friends, she never fully recovered from Monkhouse's death from prostate cancer in 2003. They had married in 1973 after he split from first wife Elizabeth.

Monkhouse, who died aged 75, was one of Britain's top comedians for more than four decades.
