Six charged after vehicles, mainly Transit Vans, stolen across Kent

Officers at Kent Police investigating the theft of vehicles across the county have charged six people.

Search warrants were carried out in the early hours of the yesterday (Tuesday) morning, at properties in Swanley, Farningham, Bromley and Essex.

It follows an investigation into a conspiracy to steal motor vehicles, mainly Transit vans, which were then reportedly stripped for parts.

The following people have now all been charged with conspiracy to steal motor vehicles between February 23 and August 14.

Sylvester Chambers, 54, and Denise Prior 53, both of Bird in Hand Lane, Bromley have been bailed to appear at Medway Magistrates on September 22.

Bexleyheath’s Jay Osborne, 35, was remanded in custody to appear before magistrates on September 22.

Alfie Powell of Button Street, Swanley was remanded in custody. The 37-year-old will appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on September 22.

George Powell, 40, of London Road, Farningham was remanded into custody to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 22 September.

Roger Powell will also appear at the same court today. The 34-year-old of Meadow Lane, Runwell, Wickford, Essex was remanded into custody.

A 29-year-old man from Farningham was also arrested in connection with the theft of motor vehicles and has been bailed, pending further enquiries, until January 6, 2017.

Detective sgt Rik Spicer said: “The arrests and search warrants are a direct result of months of intelligence led policing. This remains an on-going investigation and we will continue with our enquiries to build a case of evidence.’
