A holidaymaker who took travel books out on France and the French language may have left them in the hotel, as they have not been returned for almost seven years.
France and French, France and Paris were taken out of Hayes Library, Hayes Street, Hayes, in December 2006, making them some of the most overdue books in Bromley.
A children’s poetry collection called Talking Turkeys was issued from Bromley Central Library, in High Street, in September of the year, and story book Snappy Little Hugs has been out of Hayes Library since December 2006.
They are among 37,723 books currently overdue from libraries across the borough, with a whopping £99,237 owed in fines.
If the books were returned, the Francophile would have to pay £17.50 per item but the children’s books have a maximum fine of £8 each.
The figures were revealed in a Freedom of Information request submitted by the Times.
