Plans to close Orpington post office and move it to nearby WH Smith revealed

A consultation starts on Wednesday
Orpington could be the latest Bromley town to see its post office closed and moved to a local shop.
A consultation proposing the post office on the High Street moves down the road into a WH Smith will start tomorrow.
It follows the closure of Beckenham’s Crown Post Office earlier this year, which was also moved to a WH Smith.
Under the proposals, the post office site would move just over 30 metres away.
Existing staff from the Orpington branch are expected to move to the new site, should plans go ahead.
Locals will have the chance to give their comments over the next six weeks.
Roger Gale is the general manager of the Post Office Crown Network.
He said: “Our customers will be offered the same range of services in a new dedicated Post Office area within the WH Smith store.
“Our collaboration with WH Smith helps secure the long-term viability of services for local customers.
“We are committed to keeping our services on the high street, which we know is hugely important to people.
“This proposal means we can continue to do that into the future.”
The consultation is set to end on November 2.
