An event takes place next week

Residents at an Orpington care home are inviting the local community inside for World Read Aloud Day.

The Care UK Team at Foxbridge House will open its doors from 2pm.

Inside, there will be a screening of storyteller laureate, Taff Thomas, performing a story and providing tips and advice for reading aloud.

The annual event celebrates the importance of sharing stories, and is celebrated in more than 100 countries.

Care UK has teamed up with the patron of The Society for Storytelling to promote the therapeutic benefits of reading aloud to older people. Taffy is currently the most experienced English storyteller in the country, having performed globally with a repertoire of more than 300 stories.

Home manager, Carol McCormack, explained why Foxbridge House is taking part in World Read Aloud Day: “Reading aloud has many therapeutic benefits for older people. It is calming for those living with dementia, helpful for those with failing eyesight, and soothing for those unable to communicate. It is also an enjoyable activity that family and friends can do with their loved one when paying them a visit.

“The film really brings to life the benefits of reading aloud. Taffy is an incredibly expressive storyteller, and he really transports listeners to the fictional worlds in his stories. We hope that people in Orpington will join us for a delightful afternoon of storytelling and opportunity to discuss favourite books and classic literature.”

Having a brand new kitchen is something that lots of people want but can only dream of. Sadly keeping up to date and making our living spaces as nice as they can be is a costly and incredibly stressful business. Even a fresh coat of paint makes all the difference but isn’t easy or quick.

Who wouldn’t love the chance to go on a shopping spree. Imagine being able to walk into a shop and choose whatever your heart desires without having to worry about how much it costs.
