Ken Livingstone is pledging to extend the Croydon Tramlink to Penge if elected as London mayor next month.
The Labour candidate plans an extension from Harrington to Anerley Road to link to bus and rail stations in Crystal Palace.
Mr Livingstone said: “There are additional transport projects we can do because of the sheer size of the surpluses at TfL.
“The extension of the Croydon Tramlink extension is about building for our future.”
Mr Livingstone also followed Boris Johnson in pledging to extend the DLR to Bromley last month.
