A group of caring residents took advantage of the good weather last Sunday (February 18) to clean up litter from the Barnhill Avenue area of Hayesford Park.

Organised by Sheila Brundell, who was tired of constantly seeing the area full of litter, the clean up saw seven adults and six children supplied with equipment loaned by Bromley council’s Street Friends Scheme.

They collected 10 large bags of litter, cigarette ends and a few unexpected items, such as a gold iron, a mobile phone and a high heeled boot.

Sheila said: “The children really enjoyed the two hours we spent doing this and are all looking forward to doing it again at some point.

“I hated how the litter was always lying around the same places, so started writing on Facebook pages to see if anybody wanted to join in to help out.”

The group are hoping to arrange regular events in the area, the next one being March 18.

Details will be posted on the Hayes Life and Hayesford Park Community Facebook pages.

Anybody interested in arranging their own local litter picking events should contact for advice and support with loaned equipment.
