A suspected electrical fire gutted the Subway sandwich store in The Walnuts Shopping Centre, Orpington, last night.

Three fire crews from Orpington and Sidcup were called to the scene at 11pm following reports of a smell of burning and the fire alarm sounding.

The teams stayed on the scene tackling the flames until 4am.

A Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “We suspect it was an electrical fault, but the cause is sill being investigated. There was a lot of damage, the shop won’t be opening again for a while.”
