Delays are expected until later this afternoon

Passengers are experiencing delays to Southeastern services after a passenger alarm was pulled near New Cross this afternoon.

The 12.09pm Charing Cross to Gillingham train came to a standstill near New Cross for around 30 minutes after the alarm was activated.

British Transport Police were called to the scene, but it is not believed to be a police incident.

The affected train has since moved on from the scene, but the incident has caused delays to other services.

Trains from Charing Cross and Cannon Street to Dartford via Bexley and Sidcup, Hayes, Orpington, Tonbridge, Ramsgate and Dover are all set to be affected by delays until 2.45pm.

A spokesperson from Network Rail: “A passenger alarm was activated on a train in the New Cross area which caused the driver to stop and investigate. All trains were then consequently stopped in the area until it was confirmed nobody had left the train. There were no signs of any distressed passengers on board so the train was moved into the station.

“There the passengers were asked to leave the train and joined the next one.

“Investigations as to what caused the alarm to be activated are ongoing and we aim to have disruption to services cleared in time for the evening peak.”
