Their entry won in the primary schools group artwork category

A group of creative youngsters from Orpington have been named as winners in a nationwide arts competition.

Abbie-Louise Julien, Harry MacSweeny, William May, Joshua Ridley and Emmanuella Salotun from Warren Road Primary School triumphed in the primary schools group artwork category of the annual Arts & Minds competiton.

Judges said their entry, Building Bridges Together, “is so creative, born out of a simple idea, and is almost like a collage with a great level of detail and depth”.

Organised by teaching union NASUWT, Arts & Minds is aimed at promoting race equality and diversity in schools.

NASUWT general secretary Chris Keates said: “Congratulations to the pupils at Warren Road Primary School who clearly worked very hard to achieve this success.

“Every entry was highly creative and clever in its interpretation of the messaging behind the competition, so the judges had great difficulty in choosing the winners.

“The quality of entries is a credit to the skills and abilities of the pupils and their teachers and support staff.”
