Allegations that the Royal family have fallen out with a Beckenham-based polo cup organiser have been dismissed.

Princes William and Harry play in the Chakravarty Cup each year to raise funds for their father’s charity the Prince’s Trust.

National press reports suggested the reason for the pair’s absence at this year’s event is because of a dispute with the organiser and namesake Saroj Chakravarty.

Yet, the businessman is not at all concerned about the rumours.

“It is simply not true. I rang Clarence House and they told me that the royals would not be attending because of it being a Diamond Jubilee year and other commitments,” said Mr Chakravarty. “I accepted that because they did not want to go through any unnecessary stress and strain.”

Mr Chakravarty, of The Avenue, was involved in the Prince’s Trust since 1992 before five years later setting up the Chakravarty Cup.

A Clarence House spokesman said: ““We never give any reasons why they choose to play in certain matches or not it a private matter.”

The tournament takes place in Richmond on September 22.
