The form is sent to every household in the UK to check whether voter registration records are correct

Bromley council are sending out letters to remind households to return their household enquiry form to check they are eligible to vote in the borough.

The form is posted out every year between July and November, and is used to check whether voter registration records are correct.

Any new people can be invited to register as the government has changed the way people register to vote – it is now an individual’s responsibility.

The information from the canvass will be used to put together the annual electoral register, which lists the names and addresses of everyone who is eligible to vote.

The register is used for electoral purposes, detecting crime, calling people for jury service and checking credit applications.

A spokesperson said: “It is a legal requirement and if you fail to give the necessary information you can face a fine.”

Every household must respond to the household enquiry form as soon as possible by checking the names of the people printed on the form who are currently registered to vote at the address.

If the details remain the same, residents can confirm this online at www.householdresponse.com/bromley or by calling 0800 197 9871 or texting NOCHANGE to 80212.

If the details need to be updated, you can let the council know at www.householdresponse.com/bromley

More information is available on the government website at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or by emailing electoral@bromley.gov.uk
