A YOUNG hopeful is on the verge of becoming the latest presenter on the country's biggest music channel.

Orpington "cheeky chappy" Mike Sani, 25, has made it to the final four in the MTV competition to become a news presenter, joining current leading newsman Rickie Haywood-Williams.

The former Ravensbourne School pupil, who was born in Mottingham, set his heart on achieving a media career while on a round-the-world trip last year.

He said: "It made me think about life and what I wanted to do. When I got back I decided to really go for it."

MTV advertised for the upcoming role on social-networking website MySpace and invited potentials to post a video themselves.

As part of the audition process, Mr Sani, of Cray View Close, had the chance to quiz Brookside and Chicago star Jennifer Ellison about her new film The Cottage in central London.

He said: "It has been an extraordinary experience. I've had a taste of the high life and now I want more.

"We were put up in this really posh hotel and given the VIP treatment.

"It was brilliant, everyone was looking at me when I was holding the MTV microphone.

"It's such an adrenaline rush presenting under pressure. I know I can do this job and I'm ready to really go for it.

"All my mates are really excited. I've been telling them for years that I'm going to make it and take them all on holidays and to all these wicked parties.

"It would be a dream for me to win. I'm just a cheeky chappy who loves entertaining people and making them laugh. I feel at home in front of the camera."

However, Mr Sani is keeping his feet on the ground and is delighted with the experience he has gained so far.

He said: "Of course I'd be disappointed if I didn't win but I've made some great friends and have been really chuffed with the footage I've made already. There's no way I'd let it stop me."

Mr Sani will feature in Pick Me MTV on MTV One on April 21.
