An inspection by children’s service watchdog OfSted has found Bromley Council is doing a ‘good’ job at protecting young people from harm but found areas for improvement.

An unannounced inspection took place in July and the findings were published on Friday (17).

The report found teachers, doctors, nurses and police officers “act quickly” when they see a child at risk and that social services “act straight away” to protect children.

However the council was told it must improve in some areas too.

The findings state: “When social workers get all the information together for reports they need to better understand where children come from and what their life is like. For example, if they are religious or come from a different country. The local authority needs to sort this out soon.”

Social workers were also told they need to do a better job of explaining difficult concepts to children.
