A robber who barged his way into an elderly woman’s home before stealing £6,000 in cash has been jailed.

Richard Henry of Chingley Close, Bromley targeted his victim in February this year.

Henry knocked on his victim’s door, and after an exchange he barged past the woman, who is in her 90s.

She asked the 49-year-old to leave, but he pushed her on the floor instead.

Henry stole a handbag and £6,000 in cash from the home before pushing the victim to ground for a second time.

Despite being banned from driving, Henry fled the scene in a hire vehicle.

Officers were taken details from the victim, when her they discovered her passport had been found in Southend Road, Beckenham.

CCTV footage and software inside the vehicle meant police were able to track the robber.

Henry denied robbery and driving while disqualified, but he was found guilty at Maidstone Crown Court.

On Thursday, September 22, the 49-year-old was jailed for eight years in prison.

Henry was issued with a five year driving ban, which will start upon his release from prison. He also received a four month sentence for driving while disqualified, which will be served concurrently to the robbery sentence.

Det const Bob Fursey, said: “Henry targeted a very vulnerable woman and subjected her to a horrifying ordeal.

“Despite her frailty, he assaulted her inside her own home and robbed her of a significant amount of money. She was left shaken and extremely upset and it is fortunate that she was not seriously injured.

“Despite the fear she naturally felt, she had the courage to speak out against this man and provide us with vital information. I am grateful for the support she has given to this investigation.”
