Behaviour at a school for excluded pupils has been rated ‘good’ by Ofsted inspectors

Bromley Trust Academy takes in youngsters who have been, or are at risk of being, excluded
A school for students who have struggled with their behaviour has passed an Ofsted inspection.
Bromley Trust Academy takes in five to 16-year-olds who are at risk of being, or have been, permanently excluded from other schools around the borough.
Based across two sites, Midfield and Hayes, inspectors found pupils to be “happy, respected and well prepared for their next steps in education and training”.
Executive head teacher, Neil Miller and the heads of the two schools, Julie Loizou and Rob Freeman, were praised for ‘leading by example’ and staff morale was found to be high.
The report also highlights that children feel safe and that good teaching boosts their confidence. Behaviour was noted as good, with students following rules and receiving a good quality of education.
Inspectors did however, raise concerns that the most able pupils were not routinely challenged in the classroom, meaning some students are “not consistently securing the deeper understanding that they should be”.
The report also highlights that attendance, particularly in years 10 and 11, is below the national average.

We took over Bromley Trust Academy from Bromley Pupil Referral Unit in 2014 as a sponsor-led academy conversion. Our team has turned the provision around and it is now offering young people who need additional support an excellent alternative to mainstream education.”
Following the inspection, Mr Miller said: “Many of our students return to mainstream education. In cases where this is not the best option for a child, we help them access specialist education to ensure they can reach their full potential and get the skills they need to gain meaningful employment.
“I am hugely grateful to all the staff and students at both schools. This excellent result is a team effort and we will continue to work to improve the outcomes of our students.”
