There are now just four bakers and two episodes left of Bake Off on the BBC

Jane Beedle managed to wow judges with food from the Tudor period last night and has secured a place in the Bake Off semi-finals.

This week the bakers were given three all-new challenges - having to create a display of shaped pies for the signature bake, a dozen Tudor jumbles in the technical and a marzipan centrepiece for the showstopper.

The 61-year-old garden designer from Beckenham impressed Mary Berry and Wingham’s Paul Hollywood with her marzipan piece, which featured an intricate design of swans baked in just three-and-a-half hours.

Benjamina Ebuehi became the eighth contestant to be eliminated from The Great British Bake Off, following the exit of Erith baker Rav Bansal who became the sixth person to leave the tent.

Hollywood thought Ebuehi’s chipotle pork and spiced black bean pies looked a bit “rushed”, and her attempt at jumbles saw her end up in fourth place out of the five remaining contestants.

The judges also noted that the maze on her marzipan showstopper was rather simple and Hollywood thought it felt “quite doughy”.

Jane will face tough competition from the likes of 31-year-old Candice Brown from Bedford. who clinched the coveted title of star baker with her marzipan peacock.

Hollywood deemed it “exceptional”, telling Brown: “You have ticked all the boxes and then some.”

Next week will also see her battling off Andrew and Selasi. where the amateur bakers will take on Patisserie Week.
