Hundreds of youngsters took part in the What’s the Matter science roadshow in Market Square, High Street Bromley, on Friday, with impressive experiments and plenty of bangs.

They made giant water rockets, created elephant-sized toothpaste and extracted iron from breakfast cornflakes.

Exhilarating disappearing acts, giant bubbles and liquid nitrogen ice cream also helped promote the fun side of science lessons.

The event was run by scientists from the Big Bang: UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair 2011.

Simon Price, from Bromley, who attended with his two nephews Nathan and Andre, said: “This was a really fun way of looking at science.

“I wish I had been inspired like this when I was younger.”

Nathan, aged nine, said: “I didn’t think science was that fun but today was brilliant. Taking part was amazing and I can’t wait to tell my friends about the experiments.
