KENT'S seam attack has been boosted with the signing of 18-year-old fast bowler Ashley Shaw, while experienced campaigner Simon Cook also put pen-to-paper on a new contract.

Left-arm bowler Shaw, who has played age group cricket for Cheshire, impressed in a recent trial at the St Lawrence Ground and has agreed a two-year deal.

Team director, Paul Farbrace, said: "Ashley is an exciting prospect. He has a good work ethic and wants to improve as a cricketer. He did well in a recent trial and we are keen to work with him and, hopefully, enhance his game."

Experienced seamer Cook, 33, is set to remain with the Spitfires until the end of the 2011 season.

Farbrace added: "Securing the services of an experienced player like Simon is great news for the club. He is a quality bowler and is fast becoming Kent's 'Mister Reliable'. We are all very pleased that he has extended his stay.
