Derby County forward Jamie Ward has hailed Millwall’s Darius Henderson ahead of the Rams’ trip to The Den.

Henderson has been in fine form this season, scoring 16 goals including three hat-tricks against Leicester and Barnsley in the league as well as Dagenham & Redbridge in the FA Cup.

“I know Darius well and he has come in to a bit of form; he is scoring a few goals for them so we have obviously got to stop him,” Ward told Rams Player.

“I spoke to Darius last week and he said he is in the best goal-scoring return he has ever had, so he is obviously the one we have got to watch.

“He is their main threat at the end of the day, so we are going to have to take good care of him. I am sure Barks(Shaun Barker) and Shacks (Jason Shackell) will do it.

“You always keep in touch with players and more often than not it is the strikers because you play together and you build up a good relationship.

“Darius is good for advice, so it is always nice to keep in touch and speak every now and again and make sure everything is going alright.”

Ward knows that The Den is an intimidating stadium and Derby will do well to get a result.

“I went there (The Den) with Chesterfield a few years ago and it is definitely a difficult place to go to,” he added.

“I think their fans make it a difficult place for the opposing team to go. But we’re just going to go there with our plan and hopefully it works for us.

“There is no point in changing the way you prepare; it is just another game at the end of the day, so we have just got to keep everything the same as we usually do.”
