Bromley manager Mark Goldberg has set a minimum target of four points as his players prepare to face fellow Blue Square Bet South strugglers Staines Town and Thurrock during the next week.

The Ravens secured their first win in 17 outings when they beat Weston-super-Mare 3-0 away on January 28, but saw Saturday’s home clash with Havant & Waterlooville postponed because of a frozen pitch.

Weather permitting, Bromley will entertain second-bottom Staines on Saturday, before visiting basement-boys Thurrock on Tuesday.

And their boss insists they must avoid defeat if they are to pull themselves clear of trouble, with the Ravens currently just one place above the relegation zone.

Goldberg said: “From my point of view our minimum requirement from these next two games is a win and draw.

“We certainly can’t afford to lose, so in that respect these games could be season-defining.

“As long as we don’t lose these games the belief that we can continue to improve and win points will be there.

“We’ve set ourselves goals for the remainder of the season and we know we’ve got to pick up points on a consistent 
basis.”

Bromley’s game against Havant & Waterlooville has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 20.

And while disappointed that last weekend’s fixture was called off, Goldberg believes his men put the spare time to good use.

He said: “We’re disappointed the game didn’t go ahead because we wanted to continue from where we left off against Weston.

“So in that respect we could have done without the break.

“Having said that, sometimes a break can do you some good and we made up for the absence of a game with two hard training sessions.

“The main thing is that we’re ready and prepared for the forthcoming games, which we’re excited about.”

Weather forecasts suggest that temperatures are likely to remain low this week, but Goldberg is keeping his fingers crossed that the Staines fixture will go ahead. “If the temperatures don’t start to rise, then it could put the game under pressure,” admitted the Bromley manager.

“But we’ll certainly be doing everything we can to make sure the game can be played.”
