Transfer news: Chris Powell expects Charlton to get busy in the final two weeks of the transfer window

Chris Powell has revealed Charlton will dip into the transfer market to bring more new faces to the Valley before the window closes.

The Addicks boss has made only three signings this summer in ex-Rangers man Salim Kerkar, former-Sunderland youngster Jordan Cook and Lawrie Wilson from Stevenage.

As the club prepare to take the step up from League One to Championship, Powell insists more reinforcements are on the way.

“I’m really hopeful that things can happen before the end of August,” said Powell.

“It’s only right that you keep looking to get players in who will improve your squad and I’m no different.

“For the next few weeks I think a lot of clubs will be chancing their arm and ringing around.”

With Saturday’s Championship opener away at Birmingham fast approaching, Powell admits he would have preferred to have completed his transfer business by now.

“In an ideal world you want [new signings] in on the first day of pre-season and you don’t sign anyone else because you’re happy with what you’ve got,” he said.

“I would have loved to have got players in early as possible but of course you have to deal with everything on its merits.

“Whenever the players come in we will work on them and get them fit and ready to play.”
