‘Doctor Who’ star Matt Smith has revealed that he and his new co-star Jenna-Louise Coleman already have great chemistry on set.

The 29-year-old actor, who plays the Doctor, has been busy shooting next year’s episodes of the BBC One hit sci-fi show with Jenna and he insists she has made a very “assured” start to her role as companion Clara Oswin.

Matt is enjoying a return to a one-on-one dynamic in the TARDIS after working with Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill, who played former companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams for the last three years until they were dragged back in time by the Weeping Angels.

Smith believes that the constant evolution of ‘Doctor Who’ is very exciting for fans.

He told BANG Showbiz: “Jenna is getting on wonderfully well, I look back to my first day and I was like a rabbit in the headlights. She’s much more assured than I was.

“The Doctor treats her (Clara) differently, it changes the way he is. But isn’t that what’s exciting about this show? That you get to tune in again for a first episode? All these stories come to the end of their cycle, the Ponds came to the end of their cycle and are part of a wonderful era, but now it’s time for Jenna to have her adventures and I think she’s going to be really popular.”

The 26-year-old assistant has been taken under the Doctor’s wing on set and she has been helped in adjusting to the huge changes in her life.

He explained: “I’ve tried to help her into the process of making the show. It’s sort of a big drastic life change; you live in Wales for the majority of your time in the year. But she is very detailed, she works hard, she looks great, I think she’ll be a fantastic companion.”
