Oyster opens up for train travellers

OYSTER card users can use their pay-as-you-go fares on the train from next Monday on the day that prices for travel go up.

All commuter rail services in London will accept pay as you go Oyster card including Southern, Southeastern, First Capital Connect and National Express.

But commuters will face a 12.7 per cent increase in bus fares with an Oyster single going from £1 to £1.20 and a seven-day bus pass from £13.80 to £16.60.

Tube travel will rise with by 3.9 per cent on Oyster with a Zone One fare going from £1.60 to £1.80 and other fares increasing by at least 20p.

But the vast majority of cash Travelcard prices will be frozen.

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: "I know the fares rises will be hard but believe me - without them these huge improvements in our quality of life, and the retention of the standing of our city, would not be possible."
