AMATEUR opera singers will sail into Bromley's Churchill Theatre next week to perform the London premiere of a Broadway musical.

The West Wickham Operatic Society limbered up for their production of Titanic - The Musical by soaking actor Kevin Gauntlett, who plays the role of the ship's owner, Bruce Ismay.

"The owner was seen as partly to blame for the disaster because of his constant orders to increase speed to reach New York as soon as possible," said Mr Gauntlett. "Some of the cast decided it would be a good idea to sock the baddie!"

Also treading the boards will be Bromley-based actor Graham Cole, who played PC Stamp in The Bill. He is set to make a guest appearance in Saturday evening's performance.

The small but important role of Frank Carlson, a man famous for missing the sailing of Titanic, is to be played by a different guest artist for each performance, from November 21 to 25.
