Christmas lights cancelled

19 November 2009

TODAY'S Christmas lights switch-on has been cancelled due to a severe weather warning.

A spokesperson for Bromley council said it was too windy for the fireworks and would be dangerous for people to appear on stage.

Actress Claire Sweeney, who is backing the Times Christmas Toy Appeal and appearing in The Churchill's Sleeping Beauty pantomime this year, was due to be the star turning on the lights from 4pm today (Thursday).

There was also due to be a rock choir, festive stilt walkers, face painting and a giant snow-globe.

A spokesman for Bromley council said that another date for the event had not been set at the time of going to press.
