A KEEN cricket fan has won a top prize for her club after entering a photography competition.

Caroline Maxwell, 45, scooped a state of the art 'climate cover' for the Old Wilsonians' Cricket Club in Hayes Hill, Hayes, after coming second in the England Cricket Board's contest to find a picture which captured the essence of the sport.

Her photo, which depicts one of the club members with his son in an oversized helmet, was chosen from hundreds by former England Ashes winning captain Mike Gatting.

The mother-of-one said: "It is worth more than £2,000 which would have taken a lot of fundraising to get that much money. It's obviously a real benefit to us.

"I actually forgot I'd entered so when I found out I'd come second it was brilliant.

"We are an up and coming cricket club so the climate cover will really help us."

The climate cover is a flat sheet around 80ft by 35ft which protects from the rain and is used by most county cricket clubs.

The Old Wilsonsons' Cricket Club is always recruiting new members. For more information see www.oldwilsonianscricketclub.com or telephone Mrs Maxwell on 0208 777 3475.
